Lurlene McDaniel has written a series of books for teenagers all dealing with life-altering experiences. Her novels stimulate the reader into feeling a variety of emotions as you follow the main characters through their experiences.
In this novel, the main characters Leah and Ethan portray their family values and beliefs focusing on family and belonging. Leah was raised primarily in a single parent home with her mother; Ethan was raised in an Amish community. They develop a friendship dispute differences and relay on each other for support as both of their families face a crisis.
Although McDaniel’s novels come right to the point and the characters face heart filled emotional experiences, the author leaves the reader with hope and inspiration for the future. The novels help teens to understand that belonging to a family is essential in developing your own beliefs and values.
