Lurlene McDaniel has written a series of books for teenagers all dealing with life-altering experiences. In this novel, the main characters Leah and Ethan portray their family values and beliefs focusing on family and belonging. Leah was raised primarily in a single parent home with her mother; Ethan was raised in an Amish community. They develop a friendship dispute differences and relay on each other for support as both of their families face a crisis. Although McDaniel’s novels come right to the point and the characters face heart filled emotional experiences, the author leaves the reader with hope and inspiration for the future.
