Read Across America 2006 Celebration!
(in New London, Wisconsin)
The nIc Foundation and the New London Public Library in New London, Wisconsin teamed together to present a special Read Across America event for both children and parents. Storyteller Marge Loch-Wouters shared tales focusing on cooperation, working together, and peace making for kindergarten to grade 3 students. Her Dr. Seuss story from inside The Snitch’s Box portrayed the message of learning not to fear new friends you meet and to have acceptance of all people. The traditional Big Turnip tale encouraged children through peace making to work together and get along in order to make great things happen.
Children had “take home bags” for themselves and their parents. Information was provided about helping to build positive character traits and values in children.
Twelve children won prizes including Peace Bear Teddy Bears, books, games, and puzzles. The Friends of the Library served Dr. Seuss birthday cake and ice cream.
